RACING Sunday 29/01/12

Good morning all, and welcome to my Sunday Group Racing Blog. I will only be concentrating on the Group races at Leopardstown today.

13.25
Blackstairmountain should prove too good for these and its a strong NAP.
13-8 Best price.

14.30
It would be incredibly stupid to go against Hurricane Fly here, so I wont... but my selection is a forecast of Hurricane Fly to beat Thousand Stars.

15.05
Make Your Mark looks a very exciting prospect in this division and looks to enhance his unbeaten record here. Also, Texas Jack is overpriced in this race at 12-1.
2-1 Best price.

Good luck.

RACING Saturday 27/01/12

Good morning all, and welcome to the new 'Weekend Blog'. There are a few short priced favourites out there today that I like, but any man and their dog could pick out a short priced favourite. They include Grumeti in the 12.55 Cheltenham, Broadbackbob in the 15.10 Cheltenham and Rocky Creek in the 15.25 at Doncaster. I suppose you could use those in a trixie?
2 winners and a 2nd.

However, I do also have a NAP, that is currently a favourite and 3 very interesting each way selections.

14.35 Cheltenham - Argento Chase
I have seen a lot of people claiming that Captain Chris will not stay today in the Argento Chase. I have to admit that its questionable, however, I do believe that he'll be absolutely fine. His third behind two VERY good horses in the King George was excellent form as he didn't appear to travel well at all. I do not believe that Philip Hobbs would 'up' him in trip if he didn't think he could cope.
NAP
3-1 Best price.
PU. Something a miss.

14.50 Doncaster - Sky Bet Chase
The Sky Bet Chase is as ever, highly competitive. A chance can be taken on Shalimar Fromentro. This grey gelding trained by Nick Williams was running a nice race in the Becher Chase before falling at Bechers. He looks to be on a very nice mark for his 2nd handicap and I think he will go very close.
N.B
8-1 Best price.
Unplaced, but a good run.

12.50 Lingfield
My N.N.B selection today goes in this race and its against the popular favourite Trip Switch. Choral Festival is in good form and is dropped down in class today. Confident selection against the favourite.
N.N.B
6-1 Best price.
Poor

13.30 Cheltenham
There is a big rise in the weights for Mr Chow to tackle today, but I think this horse is very good and can take on this extra few pounds.
E/W Selection
8-1 Best price.
RIP Mr Chow :-(

Good luck all! Whether you agree with the above or not, I hope you have a very profitable Saturday.

Slowing Down...

Good morning followers, I have some news for you all.

Due to personal obligations and different situations I will be no longer be providing a daily service. Basically I have more work to do and I am moving house.

I will still be available to answer any queries or help, and I will still be providing you with my selections and my level stakes profit every weekend or whenever there is a festival.

Good luck to you all, and you will hear from me shortly.

The Rascal.

P.S - remember to only bet within your means... and if in doubt, don't bet and just watch this glorious sport.

RACING Tuesday 24/01/12

Blanks were hit yesterday when all 3 runners were rather disappointing.

I have another 3 today and I must say, I am more confident.

13.35 Leicester
Zama Zama will have to give away 7lbs to win here but the form of his 4th last time out is very strong, much stronger than anything here and I believe he will do it. 2 runs ago he won very comfortably (albeit in a very easy race) and I feel this horse is the class act of the race. I am not sure why it isn't favourite to be honest.
NAP
5-2 best price.
Poor

16.10 Leicester
This is a poor handicap. So why would you go against a horse that is in the form of his life and only carrying 2lbs more after a comfortable win? Mujamead is the confident selection. Slightly wary of Jonjo's handicap debutant Saves Time, but Mujamead should continue his form.
N.B
11-4 best price.
3rd

15.40 Leicester
Venetia Williams has only the one runner today, and that is Samurai Way. This horse ran well for some way after 19 months off and should be a bit fitter here.
N.N.B
6-1 best price.
Fell

Good luck all.

RACING Monday 23/01/12

A normal Monday really, which means, pretty dire racing. I have found 3 selections that interest me though.

13.15 Wetherby
My NAP runs in the first race of the day and its Gottany O's. After running OK on hurdles debut, this horse now gets the ground he needs and I am expecting a much better run here today.
NAP
11-4 best price.
Poor

14.00 Wolverhampton
A tricky little race here, but Unlimited does very well in these races and should improve from run.
N.B
3-1 best price.
Poor

16.00 Wolverhampton
If Falasteen runs to anywhere near his turf mark, then he will win this easily. I think that a chance can be taken on that at the prices.
N.N.B
6-1 Best price.
2nd

Good luck all!

RACING Saturday 21/01/12

Good morning all, what a days racing ahead of us.The Victor Chandler Chase is unquestionably the highlight and my NAP runs in that very race.

15.10 Ascot
Finians Rainbow has only ever been out of the winners enclosure once, and that was finishing 2nd in last years Arkle Chase at the festival. This is top form and by far the best in this field. This is a good quality field with seasoned Group horses in Gauvain, Somersby and Wishful Thinking... along with the young novice Al Ferof, but I do feel that Finians Rainbow will prove too strong.
NAP
5-2 Best price.

14.05 Ascot
Sadly, the early prices are now gone for my selection. Kentford Grey Lady - as my regular followers will know - is a horse I admire as have previously napped her. I feel she has scope for even more improvement and even though the price has shortened, there is still value in my eyes.
N.B
5-4 Best price.

13.00 Ascot
Oldrick is a horse I have followed closely since going chasing. I have been very impressed with his jumping as its been slick and he loses little energy. The 5lbs rise could slow him down a little, but I am certain he will run a big race.
N.N.B
7-1 Best price

15.30 Haydock
This Peter Marsh chase could get tiresome for most towards the end. The peoples favourite Mon Mome will surely be there staying on at the end and the trainer is in excellent form.
E/W Selection
8-1 Best price.

Good luck all!

RACING Friday 20/01/12

There is some tough racing out there today... so I'd advise keep bets to a minimum and keep your stakes for tomorrow. However, I do have 3 nice selections.

13.00 Catterick
Stopped Out is the only feasible selection in this race. the ground and trip look perfect and even though he has an 'F' in his form line, I do not see any problems with his jumping.
NAP
13-8 Best price.
2nd

14.20 Chepstow
Sire De Grugy is a horse that I liked a lot last season, this could potentially be a tough mark for him on handicap debut, but he loves the softer ground and is a Group 2 winner, which is much more than you can say about anything else in this field. To add to that, he finished 2nd to Bobs Worth on only his 2nd start over hurdles. This is solid form.
N.B
5-1 Best price.
Poor

15.15 Catterick
Bardolet has been competing in much better races that this one and has been acquitting himself well. With the step down in class and the first time blinkers, I am expecting a nice run at the prices for this Keith Reveley trained gelding.
N.N.B - E/W
9-1 Best price.
WINNER - Was backed into 9-2 favourite.

Good luck all. That's it from me today.

Thursday, 19 January 2012

RACING Thursday 19/01/12

Good morning all. After a cracking day yesterday, lets see if we can produce the same again today. I have 2 strong fancies and a couple of e/w selections again.

13.50 Taunton
Ifyouletmefinish finished 3rd behind the very impressive Grumeti last time out. If there is any improvement then he should take this race pretty comfortably. Jeremy Scott is in fine form and Nick Schofield is back on board.
NAP
7-4 best price.
2nd

14.40 Ludlow
Carrickmines has been running really well over hurdles of late and should be able to take this on old chasing form. Good amateur on board as well.
N.B
5-2 best price.
Poor

15.50 Taunton
Fistral Beach runs well at this time of year and if arguably the best horse in this race on a going day. I am happy to take that change today at the prices.
N.N.B
7-1 best price.
3rd - drifted to 12-1

15.20 Taunton
Dunraven Storm was a very good novice hurdler before under performing at the festival last year. He could possibly be thrown in here on his mark as he has previously been rated at 150.
E/W Selection
7-1 best price.
Poor

Best of luck to all followers.

RACING Wednesday 18/01/12

Good morning all. I eased myself back into the racing yesterday with just the 2 selections. Sadly, they both finished 2nd, which is horrible. I have 2 strong selections today with 2 e/w's that I believe have an excellent chance.

13.10 Southwell
Corkage is VERY well weighted in this race. He was running off just 3lbs lower when certain to win a chase race 2 runs ago before tipping up at the final fence, and then went on to win very well over hurdles on today's mark. Providing he gets round (which I believe he will) then he should win this rather easily.
NAP
5-2 best price.
WINNER

15.10 Newbury
Kateal has been in fine form since his return and I believe he can take this chase debut really well. Nick Williams is in pretty good form too, and I am expecting a win here.
N.B
9-4 Best price.
WINNER

14.35 Newbury
Glens Boy was a winner last time out, until it was collared on the line by Plum Pudding due to a loose horse hampering. This gelding has gone up 9lbs for that but I do not believe this can stop him today. The 6-1 is e/w value.
N.N.B
6-1 best price.
WINNER

13.00 Newbury
Most people will think I am crazy going against Grumeti here. But to be honest, I'm actually not going against him. I believe if the race is run to suit for Grumeti, then he will win. However, he was officially 9lbs lower than Art History on the flat, and with the jockey allowance, Grumeti is 10lbs higher than Art History here. Grumeti is 4-7 now and Art History 11-2. At those prices I'll happily take the 11-2 for Art History.
E/W Selection
11-2 Best price.
2nd

Good luck all!

RACING Tuesday 17/01/11

Good morning all, I am back from my break and have 2 selections for you today. I hope you have all been OK and winning while I have been gone. Hopefully I can help you all today.

I have only looked at Ayr today as Folkestone are playing games with their inspections. I do not see the point in studying form if there is a chance it will get cancelled.

14.40 Ayr
Gleann Na Ndochais made a mockery of his handicap mark on debut and won very convincingly. He has to defy a 12lbs penalty but i personally think this horse can.
NAP
5-2 Best price.
2nd

13.10 Ayr
I feel that Find A Key is definitely a horse to take a chance with today. he won his bumper really well and 2 horses in that race have since come out and won over hurdles. He has Cadore to beat who finished 2nd in quite a weak race.
N.B
7-2 Best price.
2nd

Good luck all, lets hope I come back with a BANG.

Snowboarding Break Until 17th January

Just want to wish all my followers good luck over the next few days as I'm having a well deserved break.

You are probably counting your luck here as my last couple of days can only be described as a shambles.

IF Captain Sunshine runs in the 13.40 Kempton on Saturday then I feel he holds an excellent chance.

Bye for now.

The Rascal.

RACING Wednesday 11/01/12

Good morning all. I have thrown a couple of blanks for the last couple of days, which is not good at all. I will be looking at the 2 beginners chases today only as a couple of notebook horses are running.

14.25 Ffos Las
With a clean run round Midnight Tuesday should be better than these over fences. Now with Tom Scudamore on board, I am expecting a nice run and a win.
NAP
2-1 Best price.

14.15 Doncaster
Loose Performer and Edge of Town are both notebook horses for me. I will be siding with the latter today as I just feel that conditions will be perfect, whereas the softer ground could be a bit too soft for Loose Performer.
N.B
6-4 Best price.

Good luck all!

Tuesday, 10 January 2012

RACING Tuesday 10/01/12

As usual for a Tuesday, the racing is not all that interesting today. So to spark it up a bit, I have decided to have a play on very small stakes Placepots at both meetings. I haven't done one for a while, so I though it was the best way to make today's racing a bit more exciting. Please be aware that the Placepots are not tips, just the selections that I am using.

I do also have the usual NAP and N.B single bets as well.

15.10 Leicester
Even though the favourite here was pretty handy over hurdles, I do not feel that the form of the favourites win last time out is anything to write home about. I will definitely be taking a chance with Soir D'estruval to come on for his recent chase debut and win here. This Alan King gelding was always going to make a chaser and will relish the conditions.
NAP
3-1 Best price.
POOR

12.55 Southwell
I do not normally like to tip up any horses at Southwell as my form at the track is not the best. However, I do feel that Fearless Poet can take this race in the first time blinkers.
N.B
7-2 Best price.
4th

Leicester Placepot Selections
1 - Tuscan Gold
2 - Moscow Chancer & Edgebury
3 - American Cricket
4 - Ajzal
5 - Baile Anrai & Soir D'estruval
6 - Ruby Crown & Swiss Art & Mujamead
FELL AT FIRST RACE :-( 4 out of 6 though

Southwell Placepot Selections
1 - Fearless Poet
2 - Magic Haze & Brunello
3 - Hada Man
4 - Sunny Side Up
5 - Johnny Skull & Michael Collins & Crocodile Bay
6 - Maxamillion Bounty & Spin Cast
FELL AT FIRST RACE :-( 4 out of 6 though.

Good luck all.

RACING Monday 9/1/12

It was good to get back on track yesterday with 2 out of 3 winners. I have 3 selections today, 2 I am confident about and the 3rd I will watch the market for any kind of support.

14.10 Taunton
The form lines between my selection Rangitoto and Master Fiddle kind of intertwine with each other. But the fact that Rangitoto jumped better and saw his race out impressively, he gets the vote for me.
NAP
15-8 Best price.
FELL

13.10 Taunton
Dropping Blacktoft back into hurdles looks a good sign as I have always felt he is a better hurdler. He has ran well when fresh before and distance/ground hold no issues. Expecting a big run.
N.B
11-2 Best price.
POOR

14.40 Taunton
This is a race to watch the market for any signs of support for Giordano Bruno. Formally a very useful bumper horse but has now been off the track for nearly 3 years. The fact he has been kept in training is a good sign, still with the same yard and he won first time up so freshness shouldn't be a problem. The fave is too short in my opinion and at 8-1 Giordano Bruno holds value.
N.N.B
8-1 Best price. Watch the market for any support.
3rd - Into notebook.

Good luck all.

RACING Sunday 8/1/12

Lets have a good day today to make up for yesterday!

16.00 Hereford
Up to something won very well in his last bumper to be a very worthy favourite here. Looking for another win here with the weight allowance.
NAP
11-8 Best price
WINNER - Drifted to 7-4

15.00 Hereford
Wayward Princess was a NB last time out but was a NR. I am not deserting her here as I think she has another outstanding chance. I cannot see why the fave is so short.
N.B
5-1 Best price
4th.

13.40 Naas
Monksland is overpriced in this race as he is sure to improve even more for the step up in trip.
N.N.B
6-1 Best price
WINNER

Good luck all.

RACING Saturday 7/1/12

Good morning followers, not the usual standard of racing for a saturday today, but we do have at least one Group 1 race... which I have the NAP running in.

2.35 Sandown
I just simply cannot get away from Prospect Wells in this race as he has the form for all to see. This Paul Nichols trained gelding finished runner up on his hurdle debut to a very promising sort and then came out and beat All The Aces convincingly who has recently franked the form. A very exciting race in prospect due to some very nice horses that my selection is up against, but I think Prospect Wells will show his true class.
NAP
7-4 Best price.
POOR

3.45 Sandown
Higgy's Rigazzo ran a superb race last out and is up only 4 lbs for it. I see improvement as that was his first start after a break.
N.B
13-2 Best price.
POOR

2.05 Sandown
Dave's Dream has a very good record over this distance... and has ran well at the course before. Price is too big.
N.N.B
9-1 Best price.
POOR

1.20 Wincanton
I have a notebook horse running here who is very much open to improvement. That horse is Prime Location and is worth an e/w chance at the price.
E/W Selection
14-1 Best price.
POOR

Good luck all!

Friday, 6 January 2012

RACING Friday 6/1/12

Today is another day of poor racing. Chepstow have abandoned so we only have 2 cards today in the UK and 1 over in Dubai. There are a couple of meetings tonight on the a/w, but, they do not interest me at all.

13.45 Lingfield
Flash Crash went into the notebook after a nice debut last month. This Robert Cowell trained colt was slowly away from the stalls but made some nice headway late on after running green. I am expecting this one to improve today with Shane Kelly on board.
NAP
85-40 Best price.
WINNER - Easy

14.00 Bangor
There are not many betting angles at Bangor today due to plenty of fancied favourites. However, the 2 at the head of the market in this race do not look like ones to be lumping on with so I am going to take a chance on Gumball who is up in trip for his handicap debut and his pedigree suggests that the soft ground should not hold any problems.
N.B
6-1 Best price.
4th

Good luck all. That's it for me today.

Thursday, 5 January 2012

RACING Thursday 5/1/12

Waking up and seeing the United fans at work today was excellent. Maybe not if you're a United fan I suppose, and with the team I support I cant really say anything... but it was fun none the less!

Only 2 bets take my fancy today in the UK, but I also have 2 e/w selections from Meydan, which opens the Dubai World Cup Carnival.

12.40 Sedgefield
It is not normally clever to go against Tim Vaughan when he has a good horse, but I feel that the step up in trip and the ground will go against Judiciary and be massively in the favour of my selection All That Remains. This Steve Gollins trained horse won a P2P in Ireland on soft ground over 3 miles, and looks set to build on his promising return / debut over hurdles last month.
NAP
5-2 Best price.
3rd

14.50 Lingfield
I will be going against another odds on shot here with Syndication. The favourite Balleygarvy came 2nd in quite a hot hurdles race last time out but was 125-1 so I feel this may have been a fluke. Syndication will relish the heavy ground here and has an excellent chance against the fave.
N.B
5-1 Best price.
POOR

My 2 e/w selections at Meydan.

17.00 Meydan

There are 13 runners in this race and only 1 of them has won a Group race. Granted, it was in Argentina, but its still a Group race, which is better than anything else in this race. Anaerobio also has to overcome a long absence but he has joined a very good yard with Mike de Kock and can show his class here.
N.N.B
6-1 best price.

16.20 Meydan
This race will be fast and furious and I cannot get past Green Beret at the prices.
4th Choice.
13-2 Best price.

Good luck all!

Wednesday, 4 January 2012

RACING Wednesday 4/1/12

Good morning everyone. What an appalling days racing yesterday... looks a lot better today, but that's hard to do.

15.00 Huntingdon
The NAP today is Grand Vision. the form of his last run is excellent compared to anything else in this field. Even a repeat of his 3rd start behind African Broadway should be good enough to win here.
NAP
13-8 best price.
WINNER

14.10 Southwell
Wayward Princess improved for handicapping last time out and is due to go up further in the future. The ground and distance are set to suit again.
N.B
4-1 best price.
NR :-(

13.30 Huntingdon
I think that its worth taking a chance on the John Ferguson runner Asaid. he was rated the highest on the flat out of all the runners and John Ferguson has been very good at transforming them to hurdles this season.
N.N.B
10-3 best price.
WINNER - SP was 9-2 so even better.

Best of luck to all.

Monday, 2 January 2012

RACING Monday 2/1/12

Happy New Year everyone. Apologies for no blog yesterday, but the NYE hangover was far too bad. I did advise a few selections on twitter, and my NAP won, but that was about it.

12.55 Ayr
There was a lot to like about Amron Lads last run and with normal improvement he should be hard to beat today. The horse that finished 3rd behind Amron Lad was Billy Merriot and he ran a cracker yesterday.
NAP
11-4 Best price.
3rd

13.15 Plumpton
Only 3 runners in this race, and however much I like Kumbeshwar, i feel he is up against it in this heavy ground against a horse who will relish it. Criqtonic is making his English and yard debut today for Paul Nichols and I feel he will be up to this challenge.
N.B
11-8 Best price.
2nd - notebook, was not given a hard time at all.

14.45 Plumpton
The e/w (N.N.B) selection runs in the Sussex National and is the Bob Buckler trained horse Double Dizzy. Although he finds it hard to win nowadays, he is rattling down the weights and is back on his preferred soft ground, I feel he could easily run into a place.
E/W Selection
10-1 Best price - He was available at 16's this morning.
WINNER - the SP was 8-1 so I hope many got on early.

Good luck all!
